Storage units come up in a lot of our moves: the sale closed before the new place is ready, a family member is downsizing, or a remodel means half the house needs to live somewhere else for a few months. The move itself is like any other, but how the unit is packed decides whether everything comes out the way it went in.
Book the unit one size up from what the calculator suggests. A unit you can walk into, with an aisle down the middle, means you can reach the box you need in month three without unloading the front wall. Put the things you're least likely to need against the back wall, heaviest and most stable on the bottom, and mattresses and sofas on end along a side wall, wrapped so they don't pick up dust.
Check gate hours and elevator access before you book the move. Many facilities around Burien, Kent, and Tukwila close the gates at 9 or 10 PM and some only have one freight elevator, which matters on a weekend. Tell us the facility and unit number and we'll plan the arrival time around it, and we'll bring our own dollies because the facility's carts are usually spoken for.
When it's time to come out, send us a photo through the door and we'll quote the load from that. Anything you've decided you don't want after all can go straight onto the truck for junk removal on the same trip, which is the easiest way to close out a unit without a second day.
